Understand formula caches and number preservation

Separate stored values from calculations and from their displayed formatting.

A saved result is not a fresh calculation

A formula cell can contain a formula expression and a saved result. The saved value reflects the last calculation performed by the application that saved the workbook. It can be useful for a data handoff, but there is no guarantee that its inputs or linked data have stayed current since then.

Binary Workbook Bridge exports those readable saved results as values. It places the formula expression and cache information in the report instead of activating formulas in the destination workbook. A readable formula with no cache becomes a blank output cell and is counted explicitly; the tool does not invent a result.

Distinguish text identifiers from numbers

An identifier such as 0000123 should normally be a text cell if the zeros are meaningful. Text cells remain text in the new XLSX. A numeric cell with a special display format is different: its underlying value can be 123 even though the application displays several leading zeros. Compare both the stored value and original number format in the report.

Numbers in Excel binary workbooks use floating-point storage. Converting a large numeric value to text does not recover digits that were already rounded before the file was saved. The numeric-as-text option writes the readable stored value and reports unsafe large integers, while the original file remains your source of record.

Treat CSV as a typed import task

A quoted CSV field is not a reliable instruction to every spreadsheet application to keep that field as text. Choose the receiving column types explicitly when dates, long identifiers or leading zeros matter. The safe CSV export prefixes formula-like string values with an apostrophe; the untouched text remains available in XLSX and JSON.

Check a small representative set before importing the whole package into another system. Include negative numbers, empty cells, non-English names, multiline text and error cells. Those examples expose differences that a simple row count can miss, especially when the receiving program guesses types automatically.
